Village Grind

village grind

So my kid got in pretty serious trouble this week and consequently was grounded to her room with punishment of severe homework and study.  After 5 hours of solid work I thought we both needed a bite to eat and I really wanted to try to even the score on Mancala with her.  Last time we ate together at the Village Grind she taught me how to play this charming little game and she showed no mercy and beat my socks off!  (little stinker)

We weren’t the only ones playing games and eating at the Grind, which, by the way is the only place in Yreka to get free Wifi (that I know of).  Seems to be the place to hang on a Saturday afternoon.  This is the perfect place for kids young and old.  The Village Grind started as a ‘quesadilla’ place.  It has expanded from it’s original beginnings and now offers great wraps and salads along with fresh baked goodies, coffee drinks and smoothies.  The building was once a candy shop, as I’ve been told, and has this incredible tin ceiling ornately painted in pastels that remind me of Easter.

My daughter’s favorite – Pizzadilla (no veggies of course).  My favorite – Southwest Chicken Wrap, but the Greek Salad is really good too, oh! and the Turkey Pesto Panini is really good…. hmmm, hard to pick a favorite I guess.

Well, I still could not beat her at Mancala (I’m sure she cheats!)  “More homework for you!” spoken like the true ‘nazi mom’ that I am.  But we did get a great lunch!

Thanks Markay!

  1. Thanks to our great customers for making our first year super! I just want to let you know we have live music every Saturday from 9:30 to 11am. The Celtic Cats have a great little band that plays the guitar, banjo, I think I saw a recorder and an accordian too. It’s fun, come join us! I would also like to get something going for at least one Friday in the month, I have been looking for someone who plays jazz or christian music, open mike or something, we could open for a few hours, have coffee and dessert. Let me know if you or someone you know is interested!
