Castle Lake

The plan was to go ice fishing at Castle Lake (in someone else’s hole – don’t have an auger).  Got the pole, bait and fishing license.  It is a beautiful sunny day.  There is a LOT of snow on the road to Castle Lake.  A mile up we put it in 4WD.  It’s looking good – this is going to gr…….oops!  The road suddenly dead ends into a 4 foot bank of snow about 1 mile before the lake.  That hasn’t seemed to deter many people!   There are a ton of vehicles parked along the road!  Not sure where everyone is.  Looks like cross country skiing and snow shoeing are the activities d’jour.  Not carrying either piece of equipment it’s looking like the perfect day for a simple snow hike.  Following the snowmobile tracks was pretty easy walking (we sunk a few times) but even at that we didn’t make it all the way to the lake.  Passed lots of happy people and dogs though.  People like snow.

Back country ‘enthusiasts’ heading out!
